GENA Interns Are Fueling the Future of Healthcare AI
Jul 12, 2025
At GENA, we believe in pushing boundaries. This summer, we invited some of the brightest minds from MIT, Harvard, University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida State University to join us in building something bold: a healthcare-native Private Language Model (PLM) that could transform how we understand and deliver care.
Led by Project Manager and AI Architect Rob Cancio, this interdisciplinary team of interns has embraced the challenge with fearless creativity and relentless drive. From developing novel model architectures to exploring real-world applications in genomics and clinical research, their work is paving the way for technology that could help millions.
These aren’t just summer projects. This is the groundwork for the GENA PLM: a privacy-first, medically focused AI engine being developed in collaboration with the University of Miami Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing. The vision? To bridge gaps across healthcare, turning siloed data into real-time, actionable intelligence.
To our incredible interns: Alden Sahi, David Schallipp, Arvind Gongati, Fabrísio Ponte, Sal Blanco, Sebastian Pintado, Luke Wilson, and Sanjit Kuchibhotla, thank you for bringing your passion and brilliance to GENA. We can’t wait to show the world what you’ve built.
GENA PLM: Coming Soon.
Built for medicine. Backed by science. Powered by innovators.
