On National DNA Day, GENA and the University of Miami Announce Partnership to Build Healthcare’s First Purpose-Built Private Language Model (PLM)

Apr 25, 2025

A new era of AI-driven precision medicine begins today.

On this year’s National DNA Day, a celebration of scientific breakthroughs in genetics, we’re proud to announce a transformative partnership between GENA, powered by SIVOTEC, and the University of Miami’s Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC). Together, we are advancing the development of the GENA Private Language Model (PLM), a foundational AI platform purpose-built for healthcare.

Why This Matters

AI has incredible potential in healthcare, but most existing models weren’t trained to understand the complexity of genetic, clinical, and biomedical data. The GENA PLM is different.

This model will go beyond static outputs or surface-level summaries. By aligning with the needs of clinicians, researchers, and health systems, the GENA PLM will deliver faster, more relevant insights, with a commitment to privacy, transparency, and equity built in from the start.

Built in Partnership with the University of Miami

“This platform is poised to redefine the future of learning, diagnosis, treatment, and research in healthcare.”
Dr. Guillermo Prado, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, University of Miami

The collaboration with the University of Miami brings together world-class AI research, advanced computational infrastructure, and real-world healthcare innovation. As a trusted academic partner, IDSC will help accelerate model training, optimize performance across use cases, and ensure the platform can scale in complexity and scope.

Real Results, Real Impact

The GENA platform is no stranger to impact. It has already been used in over 160,000 cases across 40 countries, helping more than 600 institutions analyze genetic data with speed and precision.

This new phase of development builds on that legacy, expanding from case-specific solutions to a foundational AI system that can learn, adapt, and empower healthcare professionals across the continuum of care.

“We’re building more than a model. We’re building a new standard for how data intelligence meets personalized medicine.”
Pete Martinez, CEO & Founder of SIVOTEC and GENA

What’s Next

While more details on the GENA PLM’s capabilities will be shared in the months ahead, one thing is clear: AI in healthcare must be domain-native, clinically trusted, and ethically designed. That is exactly what we are building, starting today.
